Samoa
From the moment you arrive in Apia, Samoa captures your heart and warms your soul. It has to be one of the most gentle, warm and welcoming places on earth with a unique and endearing characteristic all of its own that makes you want to come back time and time again. Everything about Samoa is simple and relaxed. Things just happen in their own time and it’s not unusual to see groups of people just sitting and enjoying each others company. The people are shyly friendly, yet given a chance they light up in the most beautiful wide smiles and their easy giggles can’t help but bring out your own. Their generous and affectionate regard for each other is obvious and they instinctively make you feel at home. The main island of Upolu is made up of a varied landscape ranging from the bush clad interior to lovely swimming beaches to the capital of Apia. There is plenty to see and do here and as the driving is easy (albeit on the right hand side of the road), it is fun to hire a car and just go exploring! The bigger, resort-style accommodation options are generally located outside of Apia, but the hotels within Apia itself also offer a good range of facilities. If you are looking for a holiday with watersports or beach style entertainment, head out to the likes of Sinalei, Coconuts or Aggie Greys Lagoon Resort. If you can, try to get over to Savai’i for a few days. It is easily accessible by ferry, on which you can also take your car. ! ... read more
The best time to go to Samoa is generally during the drier months of May through to October. The temperatures are still warm and comfortable but you don’t get as much rain. Even though Samoa is still lovely during the rainy season, it often rains every afternoon. The rainfalls are usually short but if you are wanting to enjoy the beaches, it can sometimes be a nuisance. On the other hand, sometimes a rainy afternoon can be a good excuse for a nice relaxing siesta!
