Whether you're exploring the ancient cities of Ephesus or Troy, or making a pilgrimage to Anzac Cove, it's a good idea to have some local knowledge.
That's just what Mondo Travel Orewa's co-director Adem Ozkan is offering. The Turkish-born Kiwi will host a small, exclusive tour of his homeland next June. He is currently taking expressions of interest from the public.
Adem says 35 million people visit Turkey each year, but not many will have the benefit of touring with a guide who is well accustomed to both Turkish and Kiwi culture and language.
Adem says his 15-day tour, will encompass the best of what Turkey has to offer.
Starting in Istanbul, you'll see the famous Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and other historical sites before heading to the Grand Bazaar for some local bargains.
Making your way around Turkey, you'll visit Bursa, Ankara, and Cappadocia before heading off on a day excursion to see the volcanic landscape of Goreme with its fairy-chimney rock formations and troglodyte architecture.
Next stop is the religious city of Konya, home to the mystic Whirling Dervish sect, before moving on to visit Antalya on the Mediterranean coast. In Perge you'll see an impressive Roman amphitheatre before crossing the Taurus Mountains to reach Pamukkale and then Kusadasi.
A highlight of the tour is sure to be Ephesus, one of the world's finest archaeological sites and home to the amphitheatre, the Library of Celsus and the House of the Virgin Mary. On the way to Canakkale you'll visit Troy and see an enormous reconstruction of the famous wooden horse.
Before returning to Istanbul, the group will visit Anzac Cove and Lone Pine Cemetery, the resting place of many New Zealand soldiers who gave their lives in the disastrous Gallipoli campaign of World War One.
